  • The Laundry-to-Laundry (L2L) Graywater Program provides residents a $125 discount on a laundry-to-landscape graywater kit, installation training, a free in-home consultation with a graywater expert, and a copy of the Graywater Design Manual for Outdoor Irrigation. The graywater manual provides step-by-step guidance on designing, installing, and maintaining a laundry-to-landscape system.

    Eligible participants must be an owner of a single-family or two-unit residential property in San Francisco with a clothes washer at or above the landscape grade, and with a landscape that is flat or down-sloping from the location of the clothes washer. To apply for the L2L Graywater Program, complete the online application below and upload photos of your clothes washer and the landscape area intended for graywater. After attending a mandatory graywater training workshop, approved participants will be eligible to purchase their discounted graywater kit at the Urban Farmer Store, located at 2833 Vicente Street in San Francisco.   • Laundry-to-Landscape Graywater Program Terms and Conditions

    Laundry-to-landscape graywater kits are for qualifying participants that meet the following requirements:
    –Currently have a working clothes washing machine onsite. A photograph of the clothes washer is required with this application.
    –A yard that is level or down-sloping from the location of the clothes washer. A photograph of the landscape area intended for the graywater use is required with this application.
    –A one- or two-unit home that is owned by the participant. If the participant does not own the property where he or she intends to install the laundry-to-landscape graywater kit, a Property Release Form must completed and signed by the property owner in order for the home to be eligible for participation.
    If participant is not the property owner and/or is not listed on the water service account, participant must provide the property owner/account holder’s contact information.
    • Only one laundry-to-landscape graywater kit shall be redeemed per household.
    • Participant agrees to provide proof of San Francisco residency and photo id (CA Driver’s License, CA Identification Card, or photo id with identical name on SFPUC water bill).
    • Participant agrees to install the laundry-to-landscape graywater kit according to the guidelines set forth in the SFPUC Graywater Design Manual, available online at sfwater.org/graywater. Installation of the laundry-to-landscape graywater kit must fully comply with California Plumbing Code Chapter 16.
    • The laundry-to-landscape graywater kit shall be installed at a SFPUC water service address.
    • The SFPUC reserves the right to verify the installation of the laundry-to-landscape kit. Failure to allow an inspection of the installed system within 30 days of request, or failure to install the laundry-to-landscape graywater kit within 60 days of completing the workshop may result in a charge on your water bill for the subsidized value of the kit.
    • Participant agrees to complete a program participation survey to assist the SFPUC in identifying critical data points regarding residential graywater systems. This survey will be emailed, mailed or provided via telephone.
    • Participant acknowledges that the property’s water use information will be monitored for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of the SFPUC Laundry-to-Landscape Graywater Program.
    • The SFPUC reserves the right to alter this program at any time. Funding is limited and graywater kits are available on a first come, first serve basis until funds have been depleted or the program terminates.
